detroit for art

yesterday i had the pleasure of joining several of my crafter besties on a detroit adventure. first up was seeing the diego rivera & frida kahlo in detroit exhibit at the detroit institute of arts. they spent time creating in detroit from 1932-1933, and the exhibit was marvelously set up to focus on their art before detroit, during detroit, and after detroit. it was really fabulous! i felt strong emotion in learning more about the artists as they stayed in detroit that year and what they were going through as they created art. i loved seeing snippets of the detroit industry murals that are at the DIA, and it was really touching to see the process of creating them, and then go view the actual murals that i'd seen there many times before, but now in a whole new way.
we then traipsed around town and popped into motor city brewing, city bird, nest, and made our final stop at the new and much-talked-about gold cash gold. while the menu there is cluttered with pig and butter, this here vegan gal enjoyed the farro salad, delicious cocktails, and such magical laughter and conversation with amazing ladies. the atmosphere in there is so beautiful and full of light, and the reclaimed interior pieces and stellar service really make me want to go back and sit at the bar.

viewing the exhibit itself and then spending the day with my crafty cohorts was all extremely inspiring. i really need to get to work on some new dang argyle stuff!
