beautiful books

this is one of the most beautiful books i've seen in a long time. it's a children' s picture book by isabelle simler, and i highly recommend a read or a look-through. the illustrations are to die for - in so many shades of beautiful blue. the book offers a serene and calming journey as the day progresses into the magical blue hour for many animals.

it is happening again

it is indeed happening again! anyone else super excited about the return of twin peaks in less than two weeks? i'm nervous, but excited. i mean, lynch is at the helm, so it has to be good, right?
remember that time 4 years ago when i threw a super fun twin peaks party and my friends came dressed up to hang out in the red room i made?
remember when i used to sew pouches like this? sold 'em on etsy. most of the ones that sold were shipped to europe. and i never even made one for myself.

up north, hot damn style

michigan is the most beautiful and i love getting away up north to explore and admire what this state has to offer. last weekend the weather in traverse city was perfect for exploration of the bay, delicious foods, and fabulous ciders.

a family who sews

my seven year old niece wishes to be a fashion designer. the girl is really into clothing and accessories. even as a toddler she refused to put on PJs that didn't involve a skirt. the girl is hardcore!

the other weekend after enjoying the fashion at the avant garden exhibit, we got her great grandma's sewing machine in working order and she began her first sewing project. she was soooooo excited, and she was a good sport! her first project? she made a small stuffed phone for her sister, since she doesn't have one. ha! too funny. her next projects may involved a furry pillow and a tiny sequined dress. we shall see! i hope she sticks with it.

avant garden

after a busy holiday season it was nice to relax and escape winter in the warmth of the botanical gardens. the magnificent avant garden exhibition was happening, and it did not disappoint. the exhibit wove together fashion and nature with seven full-size dresses made from plant-based fabrics in the conservatory, and oh my, they were majestic! there were also small fairy-sized dresses on tiny hangers throughout, which my nieces enjoyed finding.
this exhibit is only up through the 8th of this month though. even if you don't make this one you should still head on over to the nearest botanical garden and take a break from winter.
